Tuesday 27th August. Kristiansand, Norway.
Another lovely little town. This time on the almost southern tip of Norway. It’s first people were here around 6,500 BC with a stone age settlement.

The town was established in 1641 by King Christian IV, a Danish Norwegian.
It’s now a stunning fishing village and tourist town, in fact
it’s the number one tourist destination in Norway.
The place is so pretty. Beautiful things everywhere but especially the towns flowers decorations.

The weather was horrid. So warm. But I guess this is what this place if famous for – sun. It was over 25 degrees.
Near the port were great looking buildings then the fish markets. Boats were unloading their catch directly into the coop.
The fish market had all the usual things plus much more. The crabs were pre picked – then packed back into the shells.

BOO HISS. Stinking Norwegians sell whale meat, Whale salami etc.
Then on past some sand sculptures.

A group of men were training. Looked like they were training to be Vikings. Tug of War was very intense.
Some of the housing units down by the water were beautiful. Big balconies facing the par and harbour.

Everywhere were amazing flower displays. Some roadsides even had Flower Meadows. They were in full bloom and were stunning.

You often read about the
amazing education system. For example, Kindergarten is totally outdoors with tree
climbing and mud playing. Norway is one of the leading countries for education.
We saw what looked
like a child care centre on an outing. Six little kids with minders. The kids
were in fluro vests and were either running around having fun or being pushed
along in a buggy. So cool.

There were many amazing buildings.

Old Town was back from the water and was built in the 18th century with many of the original timber houses still there.

At the back of Old Town up a large escarpment is Kristiansand Kommuneskog. A huge park with walking trails, many lakes, amazing trees and such beautiful lichens and mosses. It was stunning.

Great place.
Back on board they had started to spoil the Pinnacles. Today we got cupcakes.
