Day 21. 23rd Sept. Lima.
The tour officially ended today. People left at all different times. We checked out and moved to a different hotel to finish our holiday. We checked into our final hotel…and luxury. All trip we talked about the hotel with …….. the excellent linen, or with the great pillows, or the wonderful deep bath, soft beds etc.
We got to this place and it had them all. And many of the luxuries that we had missed – like more than one towel, curtains that closed, a window (yes some places had no windows), quiet, room to move.
Fantastic.
Lunch at the rooftop bar was amazing.
Went to a flash restaurant up on the cliffs for dinner. Stunning food and amazing views. We watched the sun set and looked over the Miraflores cliffs.
Then went for a walk around a huge shopping center that was open till 10 pm on a Sunday. All the families out, and their dogs, who are allowed into shops. Lovely.
Day 23. 24th Sept. Lima.
Next day was a walk around the streets. Went to the markets, Ate more food. We finally got some Churros. Paying for a late checkout is awesome. Got to have an afternoon nap in this fantastic bed, then dinner and off to the airport for the long trip home.
It’s been wonderful.
Day 24. 25th Sept. Santiago, Chile.
The flight was a red eye leaving just after midnight. At the lounge in Santiago we bee-lined for the sleeping rooms. We had an 8 hour layover here so a sleep would be good. I stalked a room and got in within about an hour. Not dark, and not quiet and not soft. But with earbuds and eye mask a few hours of sleep was had.
Then onto the big plane for the trip to sydney.
And just to top it off we did a very southerly vector home and spent a lot of time over THE continent. Antarctica. How awesome to see it again.
Day 25. 27th Sept. Nowhere.
Didn’t do much on this day….as it didn’t exist. Crossed the dateline. At least I didn’t eat or drink.
Day 26. 28th Sept. Home.
And just like that it is over.
Wow. What a trip. Buenos Aires. Iguazu Falls. Rio. And my 100th “country” Peru. Nearly 2 weeks of exploring the (very) highs and the low lands of Peru. Amazon Jungle. Cusco. Sacred Valley. Machu Picchu. Polccoya (the other rainbow mountain). Lima and so much more.
And now home. With family and super beds and pillows. Where you can flush the toilet paper. Get Diet Coke. And I shall not miss so many of the things associated with high altitude – peeing so much as you have to drink so much. Being able to breathe without thinking about it. Not having tingles in the toes when you sit still.
And having pin pads on eftpos machines that remain constant – the number pad is different every time in South America.
But wow. What a holiday
