Leg 4 – To New Zealand

Five wonderful sea days to New Zealand.

27th September to 2nd October.
The sunsets on all five days were amazing.

My walking is really improving. Using no stick around the ship and one a bit on excursions.
So …… let’s not let things get too good.
One night while returning to bed from the toilet I kicked that stupid silver rail under the bed. That stinking rail that you have to wiggle your suitcase around when storing it. Not only did I kick it. I kicked it really hard and directly in line with my fourth toe.
Dear me. If there was. World championship for swearing….  The title was mine. I even vocalised the thought that “I will not say that this will hurt tomorrow as it hurts right now”.
And damn I did a good job. Yes it was broken. It turned blue, then black, then gradually faded from the toe but  bruising and swelling then spread down to the whole top of my foot.
And now I was back to limping badly with a walking stick.  Hahaha. Not hahahah

And a fat sausage toe for a few weeks.

BBQ on deck.

Hot Rum Toddy for the people with colds.

I got a message from the head of restaurants to let me know they had the Soufflé on.  So off we went t he MDR.  Two visits in 43 nights.  Hahahah,

The sunsets have been insane. The sky was on fire most nights. I have even seen The Green Flash a few times. Yes the green flash is a real phenomena. It not an urban myth.
As the sun sinks into the horizon the earths atmosphere causes the light rays to separate.
It’s not so much a flash, more of a “fade to green” and lasts about a second. But so exciting. On two occasions it (the flash) was so clear.

Choir Practice.

“Ladies” pamper party with fancy products. Andy went four times.

Important things being discussed here.
False Killer Whales.  Terrible photo through the glass.

We had the most wonderful dinner with Wim the Food and Beverage manager.
It was a ‘Chef’s Table’ with a twist. A private Chefs Table.
Wim invited the eight Pinnacles but it was not a normal chefs table.
It was as if Wim had invited us to his own house for dinner – which I guess that is exactly what he did.
We met in the colony club for a champagne and were taken in the the table.  It’s is a very private room,  old timber and very grand.
After we were seated Wim took off his jacket, smiled and it was game on!
This lovely guy in a very high pressured job relaxed became the most hilarious and gratuitous host.  Telling us many stories of ship life and travel.

He brought out his two favourite wines a red and a white and they didn’t stop flowing all night.

The food was amazing.  Wim was. Chef for most of his life so he did the menu.

Smoked salmon with salmon roe.

Baked Brie

Halibut in a nut crumb

And a great cheese board.

What a brilliant night.

It’s a pretty big deal. It means the chefs table room was blocked out for that night.  And normally they have 12 people at $130 a head.

Sensational times with great fun in the lounge and many amazing dinners.
